Job Summary:
The Learning & Development Specialist serves as the subject matter expert for technical training within the Learning and Development Team, specifically focused on preparing newly hired engineers for success in underwriting roles. The Learning & Development Specialist (Engineer Teacher) is responsible for developing and delivering specialized technical training programs in collaboration with the Underwriting Team’s Senior Managers. This role ensures that all technical training content reflects real-world underwriting standards and enables engineers to gain competence, confidence, and contextual understanding of the industry.
Job Description:
Design and deliver end-to-end technical training modules tailored to underwriting concepts, including mineral rights, deal evaluation, production forecasting, and related engineering principles.
Collaborate with Underwriting Senior Managers to ensure training content is aligned with current workflows, tools, and standards used by the team.
Act as the primary technical trainer and mentor for new hire engineers transitioning into underwriting roles.
Translate complex engineering and underwriting concepts into digestible, practical learning content suitable for onboarding and development programs.
Facilitate training sessions, onboarding workshops, and performance-based learning interventions.
Support new hires with technical guidance, assessments, and clarification during their transition period.
Evaluate training effectiveness using data and feedback and adjust programs accordingly.
Maintain and update technical documentation, reference materials, and learning aids in coordination with L&D standards.
Ensure a seamless handoff from training to deployment by preparing contractors to meet the expectations of the Underwriting Team.
Contribute to broader L&D initiatives including curriculum planning, technical competency mapping, and knowledge retention.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in any engineering discipline (Petroleum, Mechanical, Civil, Mining, etc.).
At least 2–4 years of industry experience in engineering, energy, or underwriting-related fields.
Strong grasp of engineering principles and familiarity with mineral acquisition or energy deal evaluation.
Experience in mentoring, teaching, or delivering technical training (formal or informal).
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to break down complex technical topics.
Proficient in using presentation tools and learning materials development.
Strong collaboration and coordination skills, particularly with technical departments.
Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive in identifying training needs and executing learning plans.
Skilled in using presentation and instructional tools (e.g., Canva, Zoom).
Proficiency in Google Workspace or MS Office
